BORDER/ LESS: After the Digital Age

Yer: Kavacik Campus

Tarih: 21-05-2024

Saat: 09:00 - 17:00

The objective of this symposium is to discuss the challenges brought by the digital age. There are many descriptors for the ethos and characteristics of specific “ages” in history, which are often indicated by the rapid and widespread advancement of technology. The mode of communication prevalent in a given age can profoundly change the symbolic and cultural landscape, and can alter our perceptions of ourselves and the world. As in all moments of major technological break, societies feel the depth of the change in the way we live, work, and interact with each other.

We are now entering an age of extremely rapid technological change with the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and new forms of subjectivity signaled by profilicity, and the merging of the digital media user with the content. While technology offers incredible opportunities for connectivity, access to information, and efficiency, it also poses challenges such as privacy concerns, social isolation, and the risk of misinformation.

The symposium aims to further discussions on the interdependence of digital technologies, social structures, and structures of discourse. It invites scholars, researchers, artists and designers to discuss the influence of digital technologies including AI on society, the quality and the future of human relationships more broadly.
