Prof. Mehmet Durman, the Founding Rector of Beykoz University, was born in 1961 in M. Kemalpaşa Town of Bursa. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Bursa and then he was enrolled at Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Chemistry and Metallurgy in 1978 and he graduated from this faculty in 1982 as a Metallurgy Engineer. In 1984, he won the doctorate scholarship offered by the Ministry of National Education for studying on abroad; he completed his doctorate degree in England in 1989 at Birmingham-Aston University and he did post-doctorate studies at the same university as a researcher in 1989 and 1990. In 1990, he started working at Istanbul Technical University’s Faculty of Engineering in Sakarya as an Assistant Prof. and he was awarded with the title of Associate Prof. in 1992. He worked as an Associate Prof. at Istanbul University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Metallurgy Engineering between the years of 1993 and 1996. In 1996, he was assigned to Sakarya University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Metallurgy Engineering as a Prof. and Prof. Mehmet Durman held the office of Vice Dean of Sakarya University, Engineering Faculty in 1997 and 1998, Vice Rector between the years of 1998 and 2001, Dean of Engineering Faculty between the years of 1999 and 2003 and Rector between the years of 2002 and 2010.    

Prof. Mehmet Durman has been the coordinator and member of several national and international commissions and work groups that focus on mainly quality assurance and national competency related to the Bologna Process and he has worked in these areas. He has held positions such as Chairman of Academic Assessment and Quality Improvement in Higher Education Commission (YÖDEK), Member of National Competencies Framework Commission and Work Group Coordinator as well as Chairman of KalDer Quality Awards Executive Council.

Prof. Mehmet Durman was the Rector of Bilgi University between 2015 and 2016 and he has authored 79 articles, conference – symposium presentations and project reports, including 39 published on aboard. Prof. Durman’s works available on Science Citation Index were cited 273 times, in total.
