The Faculty of Art and Design has announced the 4th International Interdisciplinary Symposium Border/less 4.0, themed “Beyond Crisis: New Acts of Creation,” which aims to address the creative transformations triggered by global crises from the perspectives of art, design, and social sciences.
In an era where global instability—ranging from environmental changes to socio-political upheavals—has become increasingly visible, the concept of “crisis” has evolved beyond a temporary disruption into a permanent condition of the 21st century. Within this framework, the symposium seeks to move beyond the sense of urgency created by moments of crisis and instead focus on the radical transformations they generate.
The symposium will explore how new ways of thinking, producing, building, and existing emerge in a world that demands constant adaptation. Centering on the changing landscape of creativity in the 21st century, the event will emphasize that as traditional disciplinary boundaries continue to blur, creativity is no longer confined to the studio or laboratory; rather, it has become a vital tool for resilience, resistance, and innovation.
Contributions will examine how digital transformation, artificial intelligence, ecological imperatives, and new social movements redefine what it means to be “creative,” from the perspectives of design, technology, social sciences, and the arts. Tracing the “new acts of creation” emerging from the ruins of previous structures, Border/less 4.0 will provide a platform for researchers who view crisis not as an end, but as the beginning of unprecedented imagination.
The symposium will feature interdisciplinary and practice-based research, as well as creative inquiry by academics, designers, and artists working in the fields of social sciences, arts, and humanities. The event will be held in a hybrid format.
The languages of the symposium will be Turkish and English.
