First Step in the TÜBİTAK-Supported Theatre Research Project: Rehearsals Begin

Rehearsals have begun at Kadıköy Pax Stage for the theatre production to be carried out within the scope of the project titled “Emotional and Physiological Effects of the Theatre-Viewing Experience: A Study Comparing GSR and Emotion Scale Data,” which was awarded support in the 2024 first term of the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program.

The project is conducted under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Özgül Akıncı from our Faculty of Social Sciences and led by our graduate Naime Hatice Gürler. The research team includes our 2025 graduates Ali Mert Püsküllü and Gülnihan Sarı, as well as 3rd-year Psychology Program students Buse Efe and Gül Sena Bayar.

The project aims to examine the emotional and physiological effects of theatre on audiences. The study will evaluate viewers’ emotional responses during the theatre-watching experience using self-report scales and GSR (Galvanic Skin Response) data.

In this context, rehearsals continue for the original play adapted from Ahmet Mithat Efendi’s novel Dürdane Hanım by playwright and academic Dr. Erdem Avşar from the University of Glasgow.

Applications for participation are planned to open soon, and the data collection process is expected to begin in December.
