Within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 2209-A supported research project titled “Emotional and Physiological Responses to the Experience of Watching Theater”, conducted by the psychology students of Beykoz University, four theater performances were held at Ahmet Mithat Efendi Cultural Center on December 8-9, 2025.
With the dedicated contributions of theater writer, Dr. Erdem Avşar, a faculty member at the University of Glasgow, and esteemed actors Eylül Öztekin, Oya Bacak, and Pelin Çakıroğlu, emotional responses and physiological reactions (GSR) of the audience were measured before and after the performance. During each session, participants watched the play while the research team implemented measurement protocols prepared for the study.
The project leader, Naime Hatice Gürler, a graduate of our university, and the research team members Gülnihan Sarı, Ali Mert Püsküllü, Buse Efe, and Gül Sena Bayar aim to scientifically analyze the emotional changes experienced by the audience during the theater experience.
This study, guided by Assist. Prof. Özgül Akıncı, a faculty member of the Faculty of Social Sciences, brings together the theater-art experience with psychology science in Turkey.
The next research performances will take place on December 16, Tuesday, at 16:00 and 18:30 at Ahmet Mithat Efendi Cultural Center. To watch the play and participate in the research, you can click here and fill out the form. Participation is limited.
