In order to strengthen the coordination of activities carried out in the areas of impact, rankings, and sustainability at our University, a meeting of the Impact, Rankings and Sustainability Coordination Unit was held on March 10 under the chairmanship of our Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Baki Aksu.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Baki Aksu; Vice Secretary General Kübra Özmen Kutanoğlu; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture Prof. Dr. Özay Gürtuğ; faculty members Prof. Dr. Şebnem Hoşkara, Research and Development Coordinator Prof. Dr. Emine Esra Kasapbaşı, Director of the Vocational School Assist. Prof. Hande Sağlam, Director of Construction, Technical and Administrative Support Uğur Karakaya; D. Director of Strategic Planning and Quality Studies Filiz Öner Mantaş and Environmental Engineer Elmas Menkeş.
In the first part of the meeting, participants were informed about the newly established commission structure, and a general evaluation was shared on the roles universities can undertake within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the following part of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Şebnem Hoşkara provided information about international university ranking systems, particularly UI GreenMetric and QS. Within this context, the “Action Plan for Preparing for Rankings” was shared with the participants and possible strategies were discussed. In the final part of the meeting, participants shared information about sustainability-related activities carried out at our University. Views were exchanged on how these activities could be aligned with national and international university ranking systems.
At the end of the meeting, it was emphasized that a common approach should be adopted to develop sustainability initiatives from an institutional perspective, to increase activities aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and to strengthen our University’s visibility in international rankings.
