As part of the Architectural Design 1 course, a Notebook Workshop led by Res. Assist. Betül Taş provided students with the opportunity to explore the design process through observation, experience, and encounters.
Throughout the workshop, the notebook was approached not merely as a tool for sketches and notes, but as a dynamic "container" where different layers of ideas, experiences, and materials could come together, evolve, and transform. Using a bookbinding technique, students created their own notebooks, establishing a personal starting point for their design journeys.
The notebooks produced during the workshop became personal archives that brought together spatial observations, sensory experiences, traces, and reflections. Through this process, students explored how to document, select, interpret, and transform their experiences into architectural design thinking during the early stages of the design process.
Accompanying the Paper Module 01 of the Architectural Design 1 (AD1) course, the Notebook Workshop offered a hands-on learning experience that supported students' creative production processes while fostering the development of design thinking.
