Beykoz University offers dual degree for associate degree programs

Beykoz University’s President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman explained that the new amendment to the Higher Education Board Law allows associate degree students attending to vocational school of higher education to have dual degree in two majors and added “This amendment is a huge opportunity for the students. We are offering this opportunity to the interested students of our vocational schools of higher education. For examples, a student attending to Information Security and Technology department might also graduate from either Computer Programming or Mobile Technologies program and have dual degree”.

Students attending to a vocational school of higher education, undergraduates have the right of attending to second major diploma program. This opportunity, which is a part of changes made regard to the higher education system under the Production Reform Package, is announced by the Higher Education Board’s President Yekta Saraç.

Education in double major

This legal arrangement allows opening double major programs between associate degree programs and other associate degree programs, undergraduate programs and other undergraduate programs or associate degree programs of the same higher education institutions following proposal of the related departments and faculty, higher education boards upon approval of the senate.

Vocational schools of higher education will become more popular

The Higher Education Board highlighted that they have been receiving requests from students for double major diploma degree for years and this legal arrangement will make the vocational schools of higher education more popular and this change is expected to have positive impact on the qualifications of students attending to the vocational schools of higher education.

Starts at the beginning of third semester at the earliest

A student can apply to the double major diploma programs at the beginning of the third semester at the earliest if that student attends to a bachelor’s degree program in a major; at the beginning of fifth semester at the latest in case of four-year study programs, at the beginning of seventh semester in case of five-year study programs, at the beginning of ninth semester in case of six-year programs, at the beginning of second semester at the earliest and third semester at the latest in case of associate degree program in a major.

Beykoz University’s President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman explained that the law amendments introduced by the Higher Education Board will be a huge opportunity for the students. “Today, we are against numerous cyber-attacks targeting global organizations and establishments as well as citizens. These attacks interrupt services in some sectors and threaten personal security. The Information Security and Technology Department is a crucial field of education that is always on the agenda with these aspects. For example, let’s consider a student attending to Information Security and Technology Department at Beykoz University. Thanks to the legal arrangements introduced by the Higher Education Board, this student has the opportunity of attending to either Computer Programming or Mobile Technologies and thus graduating with dual degree.” said Mr. Durman.
