Psychology is a dynamic and multidimensional discipline that seeks to understand individuals' mental processes, emotions, and behaviors through scientific methods. In today's world, rapidly changing social structures, digitalization, cultural diversity, and individual differences require the field of psychology to develop a more comprehensive approach, both theoretically and practically. As the Department of Psychology at Beykoz University, mindful of global transformations, our goal is to equip students with a perspective that goes beyond fundamental psychological knowledge—one grounded in critical thinking skills, ethical and social responsibility awareness, and multicultural sensitivity. Our program, structured around an interdisciplinary and applied approach to education that contributes to lifelong learning, aims to train our students as competent professionals in the field of psychology who possess research and practical skills and can develop awareness at both the individual and societal levels.

Our Mission

Our mission is to train individuals who examine the mental, emotional, and behavioral processes of the individual through scientific methods, who can adapt to rapidly changing social and technological conditions, and who can think in an interdisciplinary manner. Our program aims for students to be equipped not only with fundamental psychological knowledge and skills, but also with research competence, ethical awareness, and a global perspective. Students are expected to develop with an understanding that supports both their individual growth and their contribution to society.

Our Vision

Our vision is to train graduates who contribute to the advancement of psychological science, remain attuned to current societal needs, uphold scientific and ethical values, and can adapt to a multicultural, changing world. We aim to create an innovative and sustainable academic environment that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, maintains a balance between research and practice, and holds international recognition.

Scope of the Educational Program

Our undergraduate psychology program consists of 7 academic semesters of theoretical and applied courses and 1 academic semester of workplace practice. The courses in our curriculum are structured to cover fundamental theories and the subfields of psychology.

The educational process is structured within an interdisciplinary framework that ensures students gain a basic command of psychology. Throughout the first year, courses such as "Introduction to Psychology I-II," "History of Civilization," "Mathematics," "Philosophy of Science," and "Scientific Writing" introduce students to both the conceptual foundations of psychology and scientific ways of thinking. Supporting courses such as "Academic English" and "University Orientation and Career Planning" focus on field terminology and professional development.

In the second semester, courses such as "Physiological Psychology," "Statistics," "History of Psychology," and "Research Methods" deepen the biological and historical background of psychology, while "Developmental Psychology I-II," "Psychology of Learning," "Personality Theories," and "Cognitive Psychology" make fundamental psychological processes comprehensible.

In the third year, theoretical and applied courses such as "Social Psychology," "Psychological Tests and Assessment," "Organizational Behavior," "Clinical Psychology," "Experimental Psychology," and "Cultural Psychology" equip students with research, assessment, and intervention skills.

Courses in the fourth year such as "Psychopathology," "Political Psychology," and "Ethics in Psychology" foster a critical, ethical, and multifaceted perspective. In the 8th semester, alongside the mandatory internship, general culture courses such as "Turkish Language" and "Atatürk's Principles and History of the Turkish Revolution" complete students' academic development in a holistic manner. Thanks to the elective courses offered each semester, students experience a customized learning path suited to their career goals and interests.

Elective courses available from the 2nd year onward include Cinema and Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Selected Topics in Social Psychology, Play and Psychology, and Current Issues in Psychology; these courses allow students to develop both their academic and applied competencies.

In addition, our program allows students to take elective courses from within and outside the department in line with their career goals.

Program Learning Outcomes

Explain fundamental psychological concepts, models, and theories.

Apply knowledge, skills, and experience related to different sub-fields of psychology to personal, social, and academic matters.
Analyze psychological processes with an interdisciplinary approach, using knowledge of psychology's relationship to other scientific disciplines.
Effectively use research methods and techniques such as data collection, analysis, and interpretation in the field of psychology.
Access new theoretical and applied knowledge by following current psychology research and developments in related scientific fields from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Critically evaluate the cognitive, psychological, and social causes and consequences of human behavior.
Convey psychological knowledge to different groups through written, oral, and visual communication tools.
Effectively use information and communication technologies in psychological research, data analysis, and presentation processes.
Fulfill assigned tasks and responsibilities, both individually and as part of a team, while taking an active role in the workplace for one semester; reconcile theoretical knowledge with practice; gain professional experience; and set an example for society through the attitudes and behaviors displayed.
Develop individual and team-based efforts to prevent problems that may arise in psychological practice, reduce disruptions in applications, contribute to the improvement of professional processes, and act with a sense of social responsibility.
Continuously develop knowledge and skills by following developments and current research in the field, and convey the knowledge acquired.
Contribute to solving societal problems based on professional knowledge and social skills.
Acquire the professional ethics and sense of responsibility required when using psychological knowledge.
Effectively convey complex subjects and theoretical and applied knowledge related to the field, in writing and orally, using English at a minimum level of B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Adapt to innovative approaches by taking developments in the field into account, and act flexibly during processes of change.

Graduates of our program:

Develop an academic and/or professional orientation in line with the fundamental theoretical approaches and scientific understanding of the science of psychology.
Are able to apply knowledge acquired in the theoretical and applied areas of psychology with a holistic approach.
Possess the interdisciplinary working capacity centered on international research, evaluation, and scientific developments.
Adopt an approach based on social responsibility that does not compromise on ethical principles and professional values.
Act with the capacity for continuous learning and adaptation to innovations in line with changing societal needs.

Our students have the opportunity to put the theoretical knowledge they gain during their education into practice through the internship process in their final academic year. A significant portion of our graduates secure career opportunities at the institutions where they completed their practical training, gaining a significant advantage in the job-seeking process.

Research Opportunities

Students interested in academic research can take part in our faculty members' research projects, either as volunteers or paid participants, or apply for TÜBİTAK and BAP funding under the supervision of faculty members.
