The digital game industry has today become one of the fastest-growing and most innovative production fields in the world. The Beykoz University Vocational School Digital Game Technologies Program has been structured to train qualified professionals who can integrate technology and design in the process of turning an idea into a playable product.
The program aims to provide, through an application-oriented educational approach, the competencies the industry needs across a wide range extending from game design to game engine development, from visual asset production to programming. Thanks to an experienced academic staff, up-to-date laboratory facilities, and industry collaborations, graduates are expected to have a strong start to their careers as sought-after professionals both domestically and internationally.


General Introduction to the Program

The Digital Game Technologies Program is one of the associate degree programs first opened by YÖK (Council of Higher Education) in 2026, and Beykoz University is among the pioneering higher education institutions that have brought this innovative program to life. The program is offered with an innovative, application-oriented, and industry-integrated educational approach aimed at training the qualified professionals the digital game industry needs.

The digital game industry today is no longer just an entertainment field; it has become part of a broad ecosystem extending from education to healthcare, from advertising to the defense industry. Turkey's game exports exceeding 3 billion dollars and ranking among the top five countries in the world in mobile gaming clearly demonstrate the scale of this growth. The program aims to train qualified technical personnel who will play an active role in this transformation and who can manage the entire process from idea to playable product end-to-end.

The aim is to be a leading program in the field of digital game technologies that trains creative, technically competent professionals who are sensitive to the needs of the industry and society, are preferred nationally and internationally, and closely follow developments in the field.

Mission

In an educational environment that integrates theoretical knowledge with applied experience and is equipped with current game engines and technologies, the aim is to provide students with strong competence in game design, programming, visual production, and project management. It is aimed to train individuals who work in collaboration with the industry, are committed to ethical values, are inclined toward teamwork, and have embraced lifelong learning.


Highlights and Distinguishing Features
  • Project-Based Game Development: Through a production-oriented educational approach that integrates theoretical knowledge with applied experience, students develop real game projects, working through game design, game mechanics, and narrative structures at a conceptual level, strengthening their professional competencies.
  • Game Engine and Visual Production Competencies: Students develop 2D/3D game applications using game engines, carry out visual asset design and animation production processes, code game mechanics, AI behavior, and physics simulations using an object-oriented programming approach, and integrate sound and music assets into the game engine.
  • Vocational Training in the Industry: Through Workplace Vocational Training (internship) carried out in the fourth semester, students gain experience in the game industry before graduation, become familiar with a real studio environment and production workflow, and have the opportunity to turn their theoretical knowledge into practice.
  • Playtesting and Quality Assurance Processes: Students gain the ability to improve their designs based on feedback through playtesting, independently carry out testing and debugging processes, and effectively use version control systems.
  • Pre-Graduation Game Portfolio: The game projects developed throughout the educational process help students build a qualified portfolio demonstrating their technical competence before graduation, supporting a strong start to their careers in the industry.
  • Expert Teaching Staff in the Field: Courses are conducted by academics who are experts in different disciplines of game design, programming, animation, and information technology, ensuring students receive a comprehensive and versatile education.
  • Study and Exchange Opportunities Abroad: Through the Erasmus+ exchange program, students can continue part of their education abroad and gain international academic and cultural experience.
  • Career Counseling and Bachelor's Degree Completion Path: Advisory services offered by the Career Center, industry technical events, seminars, and the opportunity to complete a bachelor's degree through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) support students' professional and academic development.
  • Up-to-Date Game Development Laboratories: Practical courses are conducted in modern computer laboratories equipped with current game engines, development tools, and hardware, supporting students in effectively developing their professional skills.

Scope of the Educational Program

The Digital Game Technologies Program aims for students to undergo an application-oriented and versatile educational process in which they master current game development technologies. Within the program, students:

  • learn the fundamental concepts and principles of game design and game mechanics.
  • gain the skill of developing 2D/3D game applications using game engines.
  • acquire the competence to code game mechanics, AI behavior, and physics simulations using an object-oriented programming approach.
  • gain experience carrying out visual asset design and animation production processes.
  • develop knowledge and skills in integrating sound and music assets into the game engine.
  • gain skills in applying user interface (UI) design and user experience (UX) principles to game applications.
  • develop the ability to effectively use playtesting, debugging, and version control systems.
  • gain industry experience in a real studio environment through the Workplace Vocational Training application.
  • have the opportunity to develop themselves in areas of interest such as VR/AR, esports, gamification, and other current game technology fields through elective courses.

Applied Education Process

The program adopts a project-based application approach that does not limit the educational process to the classroom environment. Students develop both individual and teamwork skills through the game projects they develop throughout the semesters. Within the scope of Workplace Vocational Training (internship) carried out in the fourth semester, students have the opportunity to closely experience the industry's real work environment and production processes for 70 working days. This process enables students to integrate their technical knowledge with industry experience before graduation.

  • Application-Oriented Educational Approach: The program adopts an application-oriented educational approach that does not limit the process of turning an idea into a product to the classroom environment.
  • Project-Based Laboratory Work: Students carry out project-based work in application laboratories equipped with current game engines and game development tools.
  • Workplace Vocational Training in the Industry: Within the scope of Workplace Vocational Training (internship) carried out in the fourth semester, students have the opportunity to experience the industry's real work environment and workflow during their education.
  • Industry-Interactive Events: Seminars, workshops, and game jam events organized with the participation of industry professionals support students in directly interacting with current industry practices.

Career Fields and Employment Opportunities After Graduation

Graduates of the Digital Game Technologies Program have a wide range of employment opportunities covering not only the game and entertainment industry but also different sectors.

  • In Game Development: They can work in positions such as game designer, 2D/3D visual asset producer, game engine implementer, user interface developer, and game test specialist in areas such as mobile game, PC and console game development, VR/AR application production, serious games, and educational simulation.
  • Employment in Different Sectors: They can be employed as gamification specialists in advertising and digital media agencies, simulation-based content developers in educational technology companies, VR/AR-based training application developers in the healthcare and defense sectors, or as technical support specialists or broadcast technology technicians in esports organizations.
  • Establishing an Independent Game Studio: Thanks to their versatile competencies, they can establish their own independent game studio and publish games on global platforms such as Steam, the App Store, or Google Play.
  • Transition to Bachelor's Degree Education: They can transfer to related four-year bachelor's degree programs through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS); those who wish can continue their bachelor's education abroad, continuing their academic and professional development at an international level.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of the Digital Game Technologies Program have a wide range of employment opportunities thanks to their versatile technical and creative competencies. Graduates can work not only in game studios but also in many digitalizing sectors such as advertising, educational technology, healthcare, defense, and esports. Graduates who have the opportunity to establish independent game studios and publish their own games on global platforms can also be employed as technical specialists in corporate structures. This versatility turns the program into a sustainable career investment both in the industry and in related fields.


Vertical Transfer Opportunities (DGS)

Graduates of the Digital Game Technologies Program can continue their academic education by transferring to four-year bachelor's degree programs according to their success in the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS). This gives them the opportunity to both advance their professional knowledge and skills and expand their career opportunities.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program are expected to gain the following outcomes:

  • Can possess and effectively use fundamental, up-to-date, application-oriented knowledge related to their profession.
  • Can have knowledge of occupational health and safety and quality processes.
  • Can effectively use information technologies related to their profession (software, programs, animation, etc.).
  • Can independently evaluate professional problems and issues with an analytical and critical approach and offer solution proposals.
  • Can present their ideas, at the level of knowledge and skills, through written and oral communication, expressing themselves clearly.
  • Can take responsibility as a team member to solve complex and unforeseen problems encountered in applications related to their field.
  • Can plan a career and embrace a lifelong learning approach.
  • Can possess social, scientific, cultural, and ethical values in the stages of collecting, evaluating, and announcing the results of data related to their field.
  • Can communicate in writing and verbally on topics related to their field with at least A2 level English proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) criteria.

  • Can have awareness of digitalization, environmental consciousness, green transformation, and sustainability.
  • Can explain the fundamental concepts related to game development and programming.
  • Can develop two- and three-dimensional game applications using game engines and tools.
  • Can carry out character, environment, and animation production processes for game content.
  • Can program user interaction, interface, game flow, and fundamental systems in games.
  • Can carry out testing, debugging, and performance evaluation processes in game development.

Program Educational Objectives

The educational objectives of the Digital Game Technologies Program have been determined as follows, based on the qualities graduates are expected to attain after graduation:

  • To train as technically competent professionals who effectively use current tools and technologies in the digital game industry and related fields (education, healthcare, advertising, defense, etc.).
  • To be able to work independently and take responsibility within a team in game design, programming, visual production, and project management processes.
  • To train as individuals who continue their professional development, adapt to technological and creative changes in the industry, and have embraced lifelong learning.
  • To train as professionals who can produce work while remaining committed to ethical values, with an awareness of social benefit and sustainability.
  • To be able to successfully carry the knowledge and skills acquired into bachelor's degree education or directly into business life.

Our Graduates

The Beykoz University Digital Game Technologies Program is a young and dynamic program preparing to graduate its first students in the near future. Supported by applied projects, internship opportunities, industry-student meetings, and effective career services, our students gain significant work experience through the internship period in the fourth semester. Thanks to this strong infrastructure, our graduates are expected to have a strong start to their business life as qualified professionals sought after by the industry.


Language of Instruction and Preparatory Program

The language of instruction of the program is Turkish. Through the English and Academic English courses included in the curriculum, students are expected to gain the language infrastructure needed to follow international resources, current publications, and industry developments in their field. Students who wish to improve their foreign language proficiency can benefit from the university's English preparatory education within the framework of relevant regulations.


Research Opportunities

Students can carry out research and project work in application laboratories equipped with current game engines and development tools, under the guidance of their academic advisors. Students interested in academic research can take part in our faculty members' research projects, either voluntarily or for pay, or apply for TÜBİTAK support under the guidance of faculty members.


Student Communities

Students can establish student communities related to their interests or join existing communities. Game development, esports, and technology-themed student communities contribute to students' social and professional development and take an active role in organizing game jams and similar events.


Events

The program organizes various events to strengthen students' ties with the digital game industry. In addition to game development club activities, technical visits to major game and technology companies in the industry give students the opportunity to relate what they have learned to real applications in the game industry. Game jam events, game development workshops, and seminars organized with industry professionals also enable students to directly interact with current game technologies. These events increase students' professional motivation while strengthening their ties with the digital game industry.
