As part of the Architectural Design 2 course, the "Beykoz'da Dalyan" Workshop, led by Bilge Bal and her team, engaged students in a research-based design process centered on coastal life, waterscapes, and the relationships between humans and non-human actors.
During the workshop, the dalyan was approached not as a static structure, but as a dynamic living environment continuously shaped by water, currents, materials, living organisms, and human activity. Through this perspective, students explored the physical and ecological characteristics of place as integral components of the design process.
Throughout the workshop, students developed spatial compositions by investigating the relationships of tying, carrying, tensioning, and organizing through the use of threads and vertical elements. Focusing on concepts such as knots, connections, balance, and part-to-whole relationships, they examined the dynamic systems formed by nets, ropes, and structural elements through hands-on experimentation.
Accompanying the Module 08: Dalyan of the Architectural Design 2 course, the "Beykoz'da Dalyan" Workshop offered a practical learning experience that encouraged students to explore the relationships between material, environment, and structure while developing their design thinking.
