Social impact refers to an institution’s commitment to actively supporting the development and well-being of society, going beyond its core field of activity to contribute to solving shared challenges. This contribution can manifest in many areas, from education and the environment to arts and culture, as well as the fight against social inequalities. At its core, the aim is to mobilize the knowledge, skills, and resources of individuals and institutions to create a more inclusive and sustainable life.
Today, the challenges faced by countries are no longer merely local. Climate crises with global impacts, migration waves, pandemics, energy crises, economic fluctuations, digital security issues arising from rapid technological advancements, new social and ethical concerns brought by artificial intelligence, the increasing gap between individual demands and collective needs due to the multi-layered nature of society, and the endless flow of information have made the world far more complex than ever before. In an era where simple solutions are no longer sufficient, it is essential for all actors—from universities to private institutions, from non-governmental organizations to local governments—and individuals from all segments of society to act together as productive partners, even if it is challenging. Social impact strengthens learning, solidarity, and collective intelligence. It brings people together, helps make local needs visible, and provides a collective ground for solving problems. In short, social impact is not only about observing the future but shaping it together.
The Beykoz University Social Impact Coordination Office is fully aware of its responsibility to foster an active, sustainable, and mutually beneficial relationship between the university and society, going beyond being solely an institution of education and research. Embracing a culture centered on public benefit, it aims to enhance the quality of life of the community by leveraging its capacity to generate knowledge, technology, culture, and social responsibility. In line with this approach, sharing the outcomes of scientific research with society, developing solutions to local challenges, and establishing collaborations with public institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector are among the primary missions of the Coordination Office. It aims to create a broad impact—from reducing social problems and strengthening environmental awareness to preserving cultural heritage and supporting the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
We are here not only for today, but also to shape the shared values of our future.
