Assist. Prof. Serap Nazır, a faculty member of the Faculty of Art and Design at Beykoz University, is leading a comprehensive research project aimed at revealing the Cittaslow potential of Istanbul’s Princes’ Islands.
Conducted in collaboration with the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Program and initiated with the approval of the university’s ethics committee, the study seeks to gain an in-depth understanding of local residents’ perceptions, experiences, and expectations regarding the Cittaslow model.
Within the scope of the project, the significance of the Cittaslow Management Model—based on preserving local identity, promoting a lifestyle in harmony with nature, and sustaining traditional production practices—is examined from multiple perspectives in the context of the Princes’ Islands. The research also focuses on how the model is perceived by the local community and what kind of future vision it offers for the region.
The study, led by Assist. Prof. Serap Nazır, employs qualitative research methods. Semi-structured interviews are conducted with participants selected through stratified sampling, and the data collected both face-to-face and online will be analyzed using thematic analysis.
To strengthen the scientific foundation of the research, an extensive literature review has been conducted, and the interview questions have been prepared accordingly.
The project is supervised by Assoc. Prof. Belma Suna, founder of Medyaverse Academic Consulting. It is expected that the research will shed light on the Cittaslow journey of the Princes’ Islands and contribute to local governance policies as well as participatory planning processes.
