The School of Foreign Languages (Beykoz-SFL) supports students through four distinct programs: the English Preparatory Program, the Turkish Preparatory Program, the Bachelor’s/Associate Degree English Program, and the Modern Languages Program. These programs are designed to develop the foreign language knowledge and skills that students enrolled in Beykoz University’s bachelor’s, graduate, and associate degree programs need to succeed in their academic studies and future professional lives.
MISSION:
The mission of Beykoz University School of Foreign Languages English Preparatory Program (Beykoz-EPP) is to enable all learners to achieve internationally recognized English language proficiency levels, aligned with CEFR standards, through a student-centered, evidence-based, and continuously improving instructional model. The program is committed to fostering academic readiness, critical thinking, digital literacy, and effective communication skills; ensuring equitable access to academic and pastoral support; and preparing students to participate confidently in English-medium university education and global professional contexts. By integrating high-quality teaching, transparent assessment practices, and an inclusive learning environment, the EPP actively contributes to the university’s mission of developing competent, ethical, and socially responsible graduates.
PRINCIPLES:
While Beykoz-SFL provides its students with the qualified English language learning opportunities they need, it is committed to the following principles:
- To engage students in a student-centered language learning process and foster their development as autonomous learners who take responsibility for their own learning, “learn how to learn,” develop effective study skills and language learning strategies, and actively participate in both individual and collaborative learning activities.
- To contribute to the development of students’ reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills, as well as their grammatical and lexical knowledge, while fostering intercultural awareness and enabling them to use English effectively as a means of communication.
- To equip students with the language and communication skills necessary to succeed in university and professional life, enabling them to communicate effectively, comprehend and interpret information, express their ideas, collaborate in groups, prepare and deliver projects and presentations, take effective notes, and participate actively in discussions and debates.
- To provide learning environments that enable students to develop their skills and make effective use of technology for communication and learning.
- To provide students with access to a wide range of written, oral, visual, audio, and online resources that support their English language learning and enable them to access, evaluate, and effectively use information from various sources.
- To provide academic and guidance support through experienced academic and administrative staff, enabling students to enhance their academic achievement; to encourage students to participate in various projects and activities that contribute to their personal, social, and academic development; and to foster an understanding of education as a lifelong process.
- To foster students who actively contribute to and learn from society; and to continuously enhance and innovate the English language curriculum by closely following methodological and technological developments in language education and incorporating feedback from students, lecturers, and other stakeholders.
