The School of Foreign Languages (SFL) is a structure consisting of the English Preparatory Program and the Turkish Preparatory Program for our international students.
In addition, compulsory associate/undergraduate degree common English courses specified according to the criteria determined by YÖK (Council of Higher Education) are prepared by the SFL.
The Modern Languages implementation is for students who wish to take elective courses in languages other than English. The planning of these courses is also carried out by the SFL.
The English Preparatory Program is attended by students placed in degree programs where the medium of instruction is English and who cannot fulfill the required conditions for exemption from the English Preparatory Program, as well as students whose degree program medium of instruction is Turkish but wish to learn English voluntarily.
Taken at the start of the academic year, the mandatory Beykoz-PLET assesses your English level so we can place you in the appropriate class.
To advance to the next level, you must successfully complete your current module. Success requires meeting two conditions:
Attendance: You must stay within the allowed absence limit.
Grades: You must achieve an overall end-of-module average of at least 65 out of 100.

Requirements to enter the end-of-module exam:
The Directorate of the School of Foreign Languages may make changes regarding the exams, scores, weightings, exam types, titles mentioned in the table above in accordance with the needs of the level and module. During the first week of each module, the exams and exam dates for that module are announced to the students.
Students attend 20 hours of face-to-face classes per week. Attendance is mandatory for these classes.
In addition to mandatory classes, students participate in activities for a total of 6 hours per week in clubs named B-CLUBS, which include speaking (B-Talks), writing (B-Writes), and grammar (B-Practice).
Furthermore, students are provided with opportunities for one-on-one and/or group academic support and additional materials. This activity is called ACUT (Academic Counselling Unit).
Yes. You must attend a minimum of 80% of classes to pass each module. If you miss a class, you are responsible for making up the missed work and staying current with the course.
First of all, "Absence" should not be seen as a "right."
It is a solution applied for situations where an excuse document, such as a medical report, cannot be obtained.
Absences should not be made unless compulsory and/or urgent. Students are responsible for tracking their absences used in compulsory cases via the Student Information System (OIS).
Students who exceed the 20% attendance limit within a module lose the right to enter the final exam given at the end of the module.

Absences in one module are not transferred to the next module; in the new module, the absence limit resets.

A "modular system" is applied in the English Preparatory Program. The program consists of a total of 5 modules: Module 1 and 2 in the Fall Semester, Module 3 and 4 in the Spring Semester, and Module 5 in Summer School (paid-optional). If you successfully complete the target level B2 in the Fall semester, you can start taking courses in your faculty in the Spring semester. That is, you will have studied for half a semester in the Preparatory Program.

When you register at the university for the first time, you must state this request to the University Directorate of Student Affairs and obtain information on the topic.
Students with "optional (non-compulsory) " status who enroll in the English Preparatory Program to learn a language even though their accepted program's language of instruction is Turkish can proceed to their own programs and continue from the 1st year in the following year, even if they do not reach the required level at the end of the year. There is no obligation to complete it successfully.
Yes. If you decide to study in the English Preparatory Program and start classes in a classroom, the rules are the same for everyone. Attendance at classes and exams is mandatory.

The exemption validity period for an English Preparatory Program completed at another university is 2 (two) years. If continued without losing a year, you can benefit from this exemption right.
Yes. We direct students who want to attend a language school/summer or winter camp abroad during or after the English Preparatory Program to contact our external partner schools. EF (Education First), Wrightway Education, and Endless Abroad offer expert guidance to our students upon request.
After successfully completing their English programs abroad, students must pass the Beykoz-PROF Exam or submit external language proficiency certificates accepted by the University Senate for English Preparatory Program exemption in order to be exempt from the Beykoz University English Preparatory Program.
Yes. In the English Preparatory Program, the exit level, which is our target level, is B2 (upper-intermediate). Students who have reached this level and successfully passed the Beykoz-PROF exam can start taking courses in their departments in the spring semester of that academic year. In addition, students who present proof of passing one of the external language proficiency exams accepted by the Senate gain the right to take department courses in the following semester.

Students placed in programs where the medium of instruction is English are expected to succeed in the English Preparatory Program; for example, a student of the Business Administration (English) program must prove their language proficiency.
However, since completing the Preparatory Program is not a prerequisite for students who choose to study in the program on an "optional" (non-compulsory) basis, students who fail to reach the exit level can start their own programs in the following year.

Newly registered students at the beginning of the academic year who wish to take the Beykoz-PROF Exam are PREREQUISITE to achieve at least B1 level in the English Placement Test (Beykoz-PLET).
This exam is also administered at the end of each module to students who have successfully completed the B2 level.
It is administered 5 times: at the beginning of the academic year, and at the end of the Fall (Modules 1 and 2) and Spring (Modules 3 and 4) modules.
