“Where Do Risks Begin in Operations? An Occupational Health and Safety Approach in Transportation Services” Event Held

Within the scope of the Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management course conducted under the Logistics Program, Aviation Consultant Barış Aşar met with our students as a guest speaker. The event, held on April 9 at the Kavacık Schools of Higher Education Campus Conference Hall, was attended by Assist. Prof. Mehmet Bilgin Süme from the Maritime and Port Management Program, Lecturer Özhan Görçün from the Rail Systems Management Program, Lecturer Yusuf Gökhan Yıldız from the field of sustainability, Lecturer Yonca Tahtalıoğlu from the Transportation Services Program, and Lecturer Arzu Özçelik from the Civil Aviation Cabin Services Program along with their students. Head of the Transportation Services Department, Lecturer Ebru Tepeçam, also took part in the event.

During the event, operational risks encountered in air cargo and logistics processes were discussed from a product and process management perspective, along with challenges arising from the dynamic and multi-stakeholder structure of the sector, high time sensitivity, the critical impact of operational error costs, and decision-making under risk pressure. In addition, recruitment dynamics within the sector were also addressed.

Barış Aşar’s field-based insights, supported by real operational examples and a compelling narrative, left a strong and lasting impression on the participants. With active student participation in the Q&A sessions, the event progressed in a highly dynamic manner, creating an engaging, enjoyable, and productive discussion environment for both students and academic staff.

We would like to thank Barış Aşar and all our esteemed lecturers for their valuable contributions.
