Beykoz University Faculty of Art and Design has applied to the European Union’s SoilTribes program with the project “Soil Stories” under the Lot 1: Development of New Ideas category.
Bringing together art, design, science, and community engagement, the project aims to raise soil literacy and awareness of sustainable agriculture within Istanbul’s dense urban environment. As part of the project, local women, students, and farmers will cultivate edible plants in Beykoz University’s 50 m² demonstration area and receive training on composting, soil health, food safety, and sustainable farming practices.
The six-month project will be led by Prof. Dr. Bengisu Bayrak Shahmiri, Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design, with contributions from Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Çeyiz Makal Fairclough, Head of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Assist. Prof. Serap Nazır, and Research Assistant Setenay Gültekin. Through this initiative, Beykoz University aims to strengthen its research approach focused on sustainability, creativity, and societal impact, offering an innovative model aligned with the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus values.
We congratulate our faculty members and wish them continued success.
